Another year has come and gone in what seems like a flash. As 2022 comes to a close, we want to take the opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to you. Our customers allow us to keep doing what we love, and it’s only with your support that we’re able to look forward to many more years celebrating the best version of you with styles inspired by the vibrant spirit of our beloved city.

As everyone does in this period of self-examination and reflection, we also wanted to look back and reflect on some of the big events that happened this year.

Equality has always been a value we hold at SCOJO, and Black lives have always mattered to us. We honored Black History Month by donating 50% of the sales of our Broome Street frames to the Black Writers Collective. We also, for our February SCOJO book club selections, spotlighted a diverse collection of works from talented Black writers.

In March we, like much of the world, watched in shock and sadness as Ukraine was invaded. Our thoughts were with the Ukrainian people, including the many artists, illustrators, photographers and other talented partners we’ve worked with over the years. We donated 50% of all sales made from our BluLite collection to the Ukrainian Red Cross and Caritas Ukraine—a grand total of $31,000 split between the two relief organizations.

June saw us flying the colors of Pride with a selection of queer lit. We celebrated the many beautiful trans, gay, two-spirit and queer voices, exploring how these identities intersect with other cultural and social identities. Pride is near and dear to our hearts, because SCOJO was born to help our customers move in this world in a way that’s comfortable, joyful and authentic.

As the weather cooled and the leaves turned red, brown and gold, we found ourselves reflecting on the beauty of the golden years that lie ahead. We marked Healthy Aging Month on our calendars and remembered that growing old is a privilege. As this year approached its end, we rejoiced to inch a little closer to that wonderful blend of deep serenity and boundless joy that’s the unique product of age.

In December, in what has become a yearly tradition, we made a donation to Coalition for the Homeless—3% of all sales from our handmade reading glasses throughout the entire month went to supporting houseless and displaced people in New York City, for a total of $400.

As the winter holidays approached, we kept warm with a few choice winter activities and some festive flicks guaranteed to get everyone feeling holly, jolly and full of good cheer. This time of year in this special city is magical: whether you’re a New York native or a wide-eyed visitor, there’s nothing quite like the Big Apple all lit up in holiday lights.

Today, we close out the year with smiles on our faces and gratitude in our hearts.

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished and pleased with what 2022 has brought us. And, of course, we’re always bringing you new ways to put your best face forward.
