October is here, and if you’ve been in any drugstore or grocery candy aisle, you know that spooky season is in full swing. With the weather turning colder, nights getting longer, and spirits and ghouls on the prowl, there is no better time to be cozy inside with a good book.

In the spirit of the season, we have a few recommendations for scary books, and titles with a spooky theme for you to dive into. Bad Cree by Jessica Johns is a debut novel that dives into the misty area where grief and the supernatural meet. If you’re more of a sci-fi and/or fantasy lover, Fledgling by Octavia Butler puts a modern spin on the classic Halloween trope of the vampire. For those with a preference for nonfiction and history, we love The Festival of Bones by Luis San Vicente. This book dives into the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos, often confused for and conflated with Halloween.

To celebrate the season’s reads in style, you need a dramatic, maybe a bit gothic, pair of reading glasses. Embrace your inner sorcerer with Carmine Street, or tap into your Dracula side with our Gels Original in Action Red. For those of you who prefer eReaders, Maiden Lane will protect your eyes from dangerous blue light and pair perfectly with a black cat or a cauldron.

As Fall settles in and Winter comes on, we will all be shut indoors and in front of our screens more than we have been. There is no better time to invest in eye health with BluLite blocking glasses. We have featherweight Gels Blulite frames for ultimate comfort and subtlety, and Handmades for style and sophistication. However you read, whatever your style, SCOJO is here for your eyes.

What are you reading this season?
